Disc Herniations Treated With Laser Therapy, Is That A Safe Treatment?

Many agree less than 5 percent of back pain and sciatica sufferers suffer from lumbar disc herniations. Obviously, lower back pain might have a serious affect on your daily life attributed to it may be considerably debilitating.

Dismally, a disc herniation results when a nerve root or roots become irritated due to a bulging or “slipped” disc in the lower back region. More often than not, this agonizing experience results when there is tear in the hard outer casing (annulus fibroses) of a discs or discs allows movement and/or protruding in the soft, gel-like cushion (nucleus pulposus) of the disc.

Research does show that lower back disc herniations again and again develop when the hard outer casing (annulus fibroses) becomes weakened by our age along with particularly major physical activity producing a protruding the soft, jelly-like cushion (nucleus pulposus) of the disc outside the casing. In addition, this arises more usually in adults between 30-40 years of age than other age groups.

Clearly, the central issue when it comes to treating a disc herniation or any lower back pain for that matter is that it oftentimes goes away on its own. Nonetheless we nevertheless don’t know specifically how this recovery happens.

Research studies show that, the stimulation of fibroblasts and macrophages may be the main mechanism that heals disc herniations when laser therapy is utilized. More or less so, these forms of cells have been established to get a positive benefit from laser therapy. Not only that, it is actually believed that the fragments of the herniated disc or discs are reabsorbed. It is said that, the irritation appeared to be lessened by laser therapy which is another way that healing in disc herniations is promoted.

There have been a multitude of studies, clinical trials, and research on how effective and practical it is to use laser therapy to fight back pain and lumbar disc herniations.

Here are some of the conclusions of these studies, clinical trials, and research.

One such conclusion was that non-invasive therapies such as laser therapy have not been affirmed to be effective or practical for the treatment of chronic lower back pain or acute low back pain. Another such outcome was that based on these studies, clinical trials, and research, there is insufficient data to support or deny laser therapy as an effective and productive for chronic lower back pain.

In the end, it was concluded that further studies would be necessary to produce any real results. That is why, at this time we simply do not have ample information to know if laser therapy for lower back pain is technically and safe, effective, and practical type of treatment for back pain currently.
